Food pairing
Hearty stews, roast lamb, aged Manchego or Portuguese cheeses, grilled game meats.
Serving
- Decant
- Yes (30 minutes) — The wine has aged for 18 years, allowing the tannins to soften and integrate. Decanting will help to aerate the wine, enhancing its aromas and flavors, especially given its blend of varieties.
Sustainability
Sustainability score: 7/10
Estate engages in integrated pest management, water recycling for drip irrigation, low-intervention in vineyards, and use of recycled glass for some bottlings. Local cover crops and partial solar energy implemented since late 2000s.
Torre do Frade is considered one of the Alentejo pioneers in sustainable practices. While the 2007 vintage predated the producer's move toward more formalized sustainability certifications, there was already commitment to reduced chemical use, efficient water and energy management, and responsible packaging. No organic or biodynamic seal applies retroactively. For the vintage in question, sustainability is above the national average for the era, but not at the standard of fully certified organic/biodynamic estates.
