Tasting profile
Deep ruby core with some garnet rim; aromas of black plum, blackberry compote, leather, tobacco leaf, earth, cedar, subtle violet and graphite; palate is firm and robust, but tannins are now supple and polished; savory with lingering minerality and spice.
Evolution: Primary black fruits and oak tones at release, moving into dried fig, forest floor, cigar box, black tea, and gamey nuances after a decade+; tannins mellow and mouthfeel grows silky.
At peak: At peak, the wine balances mature fruit with earthy complexity, delivering classic Cahors gravitas with harmony and depth.

2009 was an excellent, warm vintage in Cahors, producing structured, ripe Malbecs with ample concentration. Château Nozières has a reputation for producing long-lived, traditional Malbecs, particularly in their Grande Réserve bottlings. The wine's natural tannic backbone and acidity support aging, and at this price/quality tier, 18-22 years is realistic for peak drinking in a strong year like 2009.
Food pairing
Cassoulet, braised duck leg, grilled lamb chops, beef bourguignon, hard aged cheeses, lentil stew with herbs; excellent with earthy and umami-driven dishes.

Sustainability
Sustainability score: 6/10
Integrated pest management, limited use of chemical fertilizers/pesticides, grass cover crops between rows, manual harvest for premium cuvées, moderate efforts toward water use efficiency
Château Nozières practices sustainable agriculture (e.g., reduced pesticides, biodiversity emphasis, and soil health), but as of most recent vintages, was not organic- or biodynamic-certified. They are part of regional sustainability networks but use conventional farming for some parcels. Packaging and energy use is fairly typical for a mid-sized Cahors estate. While their carbon footprint is lower for local consumption, exporting overseas raises impacts. Overall, sound but not cutting-edge sustainability by European standards for this class of producer and wine.
