The 2010 vintage in Bordeaux is legendary for balance, grip, and structure. Smith Haut Lafitte’s style is built for long cellar aging, with phenolic ripeness and freshness assuring a very long peak window. As of 2024, the wine is mature but far from declining; cellared bottles will reward further patience but are excellent now.

Serving
- Decant
- Yes (1-2 hours) — The wine is 15 years old and has firm, integrated tannins that will benefit from aeration to enhance its aromas and flavors.
Sustainability
Sustainability score: 9/10
Progressive conversion to organic since mid-2000s; biodynamic principles applied (herbal teas, natural composts, cover crops, horses used for vineyard work). Biological pest control, on-site composting, gravity-flow winery, solar energy, natural clay amphorae for ageing, recycled/reduced packaging.
Château Smith Haut Lafitte is recognized as one of Bordeaux’s most advanced estates in sustainability. Although the 2010 vintage was pre-official organic certification, the estate had already implemented rigorous sustainable practices, including integrated pest and disease management, water and energy conservation, biodiversity (beehives, hedgerows), and carbon reduction. Their commitment places them at the forefront of ethical winegrowing in Bordeaux. Later vintages (2019 onward) are certified organic, showing continuous improvement. Overall, the wine is among the most sustainable for its region and class, though still carries the carbon impact typical of international fine wine logistics.
