Tasting profile
Red cherry, raspberry, rose petal, violet, tar, licorice, dried herbs, and subtle earthy undertones. Firm structure and noticeable astringency; undertones of savory mineral and spice.
Evolution: With 5–10 more years, expect intensification of truffle, dried floral, tobacco, leather, balsamic notes; tannins soften and tertiary complexity emerges, fruit becomes more subdued and ethereal.
At peak: At peak: harmony of floral, fruit, earth and balsamic; tannins will be silky, acids remain lively, flavor complexity and aromatic persistence at highest level, showing classic Rinaldi depth and elegance.
Structure
- Acidity
- Pronounced, giving lift and ensuring longevity; classic high-acid Nebbiolo, contributing to freshness and aging potential.
- Tannins
- Firm, powerful, finely grained tannins typical of Rinaldi Barolo; structure is prominent but gradually softening. Needs further aging to fully resolve.
- Alcohol
- 13.5–14% ABV; well integrated, not dominant; complements the structure and fruit, especially after aeration.
- Aging potential
- 20–25 years from vintage, with outstanding bottles aging gracefully beyond 2040.
Drinking window
- Peak drinking
- 2028 to 2036
- Optimal window
- 2025 to 2042
- Current status
- Approachable but still young; can be enjoyed now with decanting or cellared for further development
- Current condition
- Structured and youthful; primary fruit, pronounced tannins and fresh acidity are still integrating. Fresh, complex and clearly high-pedigree but not fully mature.
The 2028–2036 window represents the time when the powerful tannic backbone has melted into the wine, secondary and tertiary notes (truffle, leather, tar, dried rose) have emerged, and the fruit still holds energy. Before this, structure may dominate; after, fruit will recede and more oxidative notes may appear, risking a loss of vibrancy. Proper storage can extend longevity, but after 2036–2042 the wine’s profile will be driven by subtlety and autumnal character versus fresh fruit and structure.
Food pairing
Traditional pairings: braised veal or beef (osso buco, brasato al Barolo), wild game (venison, boar), porcini or truffle risotto, aged Parmigiano or Tuscan Pecorino, roasted root vegetables and mushrooms. Young: richer, umami dishes to balance tannins. At peak: refined, aromatic cuisine highlighting truffle, game birds, or delicate roasts. Older bottles: mushroom-based dishes, mature cheeses, risotto with aged balsamic.
Serving
- Decant
- Yes (1-2 hours) — The Barolo has firm, powerful tannins that are gradually softening but still need further aging to fully resolve. Decanting will help aerate the wine, allowing it to open up and soften the tannins, enhancing the overall drinking experience.
Sustainability

Sustainable, minimal intervention in vineyard and cellar. Native yeast fermentations, low sulfur; hand-harvested, no herbicides.
Rinaldi adheres to sustainable and artisanal practices but does not pursue formal certifications; vineyard work is meticulous and largely manual, with clear respect for environment and terroir.
