Tasting profile
Lime, white peach, grapefruit zest, crushed slate, floral notes (acacia, thyme). Razor-sharp acidity, saline mineral finish, dense structure.
Evolution: Over the next 2-5 years: more stone fruit, honey, and mineral complexity. By 8-12 years: petrol/kerosene highlights, toasted nut, and texture.
At peak: Mid-2030s: full citrus and peach aromas, integrated acidity, impressive length and mineral precision typical of Pettenthal site.
Structure
- Acidity
- High (classic for Rheinhessen GG Riesling, especially from Pettenthal)
- Tannins
- None (white wine, may have subtle phenolic texture from skin contact)
- Alcohol
- Typically 12.5%–13% ABV
- Aging potential
- High; 15+ years. Top Grosse Lage (GG) site and rigorous winemaking deliver long cellaring capability.
Drinking window
- Peak drinking
- 2029 to 2040
- Optimal window
- 2026 to 2043
- Current status
- Very young, recently bottled. Drinkable but primary and taut.
- Current condition
- Intensely aromatic, vibrant acidity, unintegrated yet showing great promise. Will benefit from 2-3 years bottle age.
GG Riesling from Pettenthal is among Germany's most ageworthy dry white wines; the site's craggy red slate and steep exposure impart structure and intensity that bloom over a decade or more. Early drinking is possible but for best harmonization and tertiary complexity, wait at least 5 years.
Food pairing
Seafood with citrus or herbal accents, Thai or Vietnamese cuisine, roast chicken, Asian-style pork, hard and soft cheeses (Comté, aged Gouda), oysters, grilled vegetables.

Sustainability
Sustainability score: 9/10
Hand-harvesting, native yeasts, minimal sulfur, cover cropping, solar-powered cellars, recycling water systems, lightweight recycled glass, no herbicides, biodiversity zones in vineyards, careful energy management in production and packaging.
Kühling-Gillot is internationally recognized for environmental stewardship: all estate vineyards maintained organically (EU-certified), with additional regenerative and climate-adaptive measures. Vineyard biodiversity, precise water and energy management, and a move toward carbon-neutral operations place them at the forefront of sustainable European wine. One sustainability tradeoff: glass bottle and shipping emissions for export markets. Overall, one of the most sustainable choices among top-tier German Rieslings.
