Tasting profile
Aromas of dark cherry, rose petal, violets, tar, crushed herbs, and hints of licorice. Palate is powerful and structured, with dense fruit, mineral undertones, and long, grippy yet polished tannins.
Evolution: Will evolve from intense dark fruit, florals, and spice to reveal greater notes of truffle, dried rose, tobacco, leather, and forest floor. Secondary and tertiary complexity will increase from 2028 onward.
At peak: At peak, expect harmony between fruit, earth, and savory notes with resolved tannins, exceptional length, and a hauntingly aromatic bouquet.

2015 is a warm, balanced vintage in Barolo, with high-quality fruit, depth, and structured tannins. Bruno Giacosa is among the region’s most prestigious producers, known for classic, long-lived Barolo. Falletto is a prime south-facing vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba with a track record for longevity. As such, this wine will age beautifully for decades, delivering peak complexity from late 2020s through the 2030s. Cellared bottles may hold past 2042 in pristine conditions.
Food pairing
Best with braised or roasted red meats (osso buco, veal shank, beef cheek), wild game (venison, boar), aged hard cheeses (Parmigiano-Reggiano, Pecorino), or earthy mushroom risotto. Avoid spicy or acidic dishes.
Serving
- Serving temperature
- 16-18°C / 61-64°F
- Decant
- Yes (2-3 hours) — Decanting will soften the youthful tannins, open up complex aromatics, and integrate flavors. Young Barolo is best after aeration.
Sustainability
Sustainability score: 5/10
Practices include limited use of chemicals, attention to soil health, and some manual vineyard work, but no formalized sustainability program is in place. Giacosa follows traditional methods, with low yields and minimal intervention typical of top Barolo producers.
While Bruno Giacosa is a legendary, quality-focused, and historically conscious Barolo producer, there is no evidence of official organic, biodynamic, or sustainability certification or published environmental sustainability reporting as of the 2015 vintage. Vineyard work is sensitive, but does not meet the highest green standards. The estate has not pursued aggressive reductions in packaging waste, bottle weight, or carbon emissions. Overall, the sustainability profile is moderate: careful, old-school agriculture but lacking documented progressive environmental initiatives.
