Sustainability

Sustainability score: 9/10

Louis Roederer leads Champagne in regenerative viticulture, high proportion of estate fruit farmed either organically or biodynamically (most for Cristal). Estate reduces chemical inputs, focuses on natural biodiversity, 'green' initiatives (solar power, electric vehicles, lighter glass, recycled packaging), water recycling.

Louis Roederer and Cristal are international pioneers in sustainable viticulture for Champagne—a region long dependent on intensive agriculture. The vast majority of Cristal’s fruit is estate-grown under certified organic or biodynamic regime; Roederer leads with integrated pest management, cover cropping, biodiversity protection, and strict chemical reduction. Investments in energy efficiency and packaging have further improved sustainability. While the region’s exports mean a necessary carbon footprint for non-EU buyers, Roederer’s efforts place Cristal 2016 at the top tier for sustainability among luxury Champagne houses.
