Tasting profile
Deep, vibrant purple. Aromas of violets, blackberries, blackcurrants, cracked pepper, olive tapenade, smoked meat, and hints of dried herbs. Palate is dense, tightly wound, showing lively fruit, graphite, wet stones, and concentrated savory notes.
Evolution: Over 8-12 years, tannins will soften, revealing layers of spice, floral lift, forest floor, cured meats, and savory minerality. In peak maturity, umami, leather, and truffle nuances will emerge.
At peak: At peak: profound complexity, seamless integration of fruit, tannin, and tertiary character; signature Côte-Rôtie elegance and power.

Domaine Jamet is an undisputed benchmark for traditional Côte-Rôtie. Extended maceration, whole cluster fermentation, and mostly neutral oak produce wines of remarkable longevity and complexity. In the excellent 2022 vintage, structure and balance ensure this wine will thrive for 30+ years. Critics and past vintages (notably 1999, 2010, 2015) have demonstrated the house's legendary aging curve, regularly rewarding 25-40 years of cellaring.
Food pairing
Decant and serve with prime dry-aged beef, roast lamb with rosemary, braised duck, venison, wild mushroom risotto, or grilled eggplant with tapenade. Mature cheeses such as Comté, aged Gouda, or tomme de montagne.
Serving
- Serving temperature
- 16-18°C / 61-64°F
- Decant
- Yes (2-3 hours (youthful) / 1 hour (maturing)) — Decanting helps soften the tannic structure, aerates the wine to release its aromatic complexity, and allows youthful Syrah funkiness to dissipate.
Sustainability
Sustainability score: 7/10
Jamet employs sustainable viticulture including cover crops, natural compost, limited chemical interventions, and hand-harvesting. Minimal intervention winemaking. Uses traditional barrels (long life span), eschews heavy chemical treatments.
Domaine Jamet is traditional, family-run, and focuses on natural balance in the vineyard. While not strictly organic or biodynamic, Jamet prioritizes minimal inputs and soil conservation. HVE Level 3 is a strong sustainability indicator in France. Water conservation is typical of dry-farmed vineyards. Their carbon footprint is average for premium Northern Rhône producers: lower than large industrial operations but higher than certified 'green' estates or those using lightweight packaging or carbon offsets.
