Tasting profile
Amber-gold color. Aromatic profile of apricot compote, candied orange peel, honey, and rose petal. Palate is unctuous yet balanced by energetic acidity. Notes of marzipan, caramelized citrus, and exotic spices.
Evolution: Primary fruit has receded; dried apricots and figs dominate, with increasing complexity from honey, spice, and subtle nuttiness.
At peak: At peak: seamless integration of fruit, acidity, and tertiary honeyed complexity; heightened aromatics and length. After ~2035, gently fades but remains enjoyable for years.

Vin de Constance is crafted for long-term cellaring, benefiting from high natural acidity and residual sugar. 2008 was a classic vintage with careful hand-harvesting and extended aging, resulting in great balance and long-lived structure. The wine evolves from youthful exuberance to deep complexity over 15–30 years.

Foie gras terrine, blue cheeses (Roquefort, Stilton), tarte tatin, almond torte, or sipped solo as a meditation wine.

Sustainability
Sustainability score: 7/10
Integrated pest management, elimination of herbicides, use of cover crops, responsible irrigation, active water conservation, indigenous flora restoration, solar panel installation (rolling out 2010s), light-weight glass bottles, local cork sourcing.
Klein Constantia is a recognized leader in South African sustainable viticulture, emphasizing environmental stewardship through restoration ecology, water efficiency, and low-intervention farming. The estate’s major sustainability improvements accelerated in the 2010s, but many best practices were already in place by 2008. Not fully organic or biodynamic certified for this vintage, which limits the score. Their carbon footprint remains moderate due to global export, but they counterbalance with innovative winery practices and stewardship of the native fynbos ecosystem. Overall, a very strong sustainability performer for the category, with continued improvements since this vintage.
