Tasting profile
Red cherry, raspberry, rose petal, violet, tar, subtle earthy undertones, hints of licorice and spice. Tannins present but starting to smooth. Acidity brings vivacity, and savory notes appear with air.
Evolution: Fruit will move towards dried and stewed characters (dried cherry, cranberry), floral tones will fade in favor of more pronounced earth/truffle/forest floor, tannins will soften and integrate, tertiary notes (leather, tobacco, menthol) will emerge.
At peak: At peak (2026-2031), expect full integration: fruit, tannin, and acid melded with complex earthy, floral, and savory nuances. Silky mouthfeel, long finish, and aromatic complexity define the experience.
Structure
- Acidity
- Pronounced, classic for Nebbiolo, supporting freshness and promising further positive aging.
- Tannins
- Firm, fine-grained, still somewhat grippy but starting to integrate with air and bottle age.
- Alcohol
- Medium (14-14.5%), well-integrated with no alcohol heat; balance is a hallmark.
- Aging potential
- 10-15 years from vintage; quality and balance support extended cellaring if stored properly.
Drinking window
- Peak drinking
- 2026 to 2043
- Optimal window
- 2023 to 2046
- Current status
- Ready to drink
- Current condition
- Structured, balanced, youthful but beginning to shed primary tannins; offering both red fruit and emerging tertiary notes.
The peak window (2026-2031) allows the firm Nebbiolo tannins to resolve and mature, while preserving fresh red fruit and floral elements. Complexity peaks as secondary and tertiary notes emerge without the wine feeling tired. Post-2031, the wine will become more tertiary with fading fruit and less vibrancy. After this period, it's still enjoyable for those who appreciate evolved aromatics but risks diminished balance.
Food pairing
Classic pairings: truffle risotto, braised veal shank (ossobuco), game birds, mushroom-based dishes, Tajarin al ragù, Parmigiano Reggiano. With current brightness and structure, works well with rich meats or firm cheeses. As it ages and softens, even more delicate truffle or wild mushroom dishes, roasted root vegetables, or aged cheeses are excellent; more advanced bottles can pair with milder, savory recipes.
Serving
- Decant
- Yes (1-2 hours) — The wine has firm, fine-grained tannins that are starting to integrate, which will benefit from aeration to enhance its flavors and soften the mouthfeel.
