Food pairing
Prime dry-aged beef, venison, roasted duck with porcini, truffle risotto, aged Parmigiano-Reggiano.
Serving
- Decant
- Yes (1-2 hours) — The high tannins and firm structure of the wine benefit from aeration to soften and enhance the flavors.
Sustainability
Sustainability score: 7/10
Precision viticulture, cover cropping, manual harvesting, minimal chemical use, water monitoring, eco-friendly packaging where feasible.
Masseto, under Frescobaldi and Ornellaia e Masseto Group, has committed to Sustainable Winegrowing Italy guidelines but does not carry certified organic/biodynamic labeling. The estate uses advanced soil health practices, careful water management, regular biodiversity audits, and renewable energy use, though packaging and export logistics still contribute notable emissions compared to local-only distribution. Overall, Masseto's philosophy is consistent with premium sustainable winegrowing, but absolute leadership in formal certifications and carbon-neutral status is not yet achieved.
