Tasting profile
Aromas of apricot, green apple, lime, faint white flowers, slate/mineral hints. Palate may now show honeyed tones, less primary fruit, emerging kerosene/petrol notes, softer acidity.
Evolution: From bright and brisk citrus/stone fruit freshness (youth), now evolving into mellowed, lightly oxidative, secondary aromas, softer on the palate.
At peak: At peak circa 2014-2015 for fruit/vibrancy. Now, flavor profile is more mellow, subtle, possibly slightly fading. Still balanced if well preserved, but no further upside expected.

Dr. Loosen Dr. L Riesling is designed as a fresh, approachable, early-drinking Mosel Riesling. While the best dry Mosel Rieslings can age for decades, this bottling is meant for instant enjoyment and rarely benefits from long-term cellaring. The 2012 is now at or slightly past its best, though some bottles may offer surprise tertiary complexity.

Light, fresh fare: sushi, Asian-spiced salads, ceviche, pork schnitzel, Indian curries with gentle heat, goat cheese, Thai food, or simply as an aperitif.

Sustainability
Sustainability score: 6/10
Dr. Loosen incorporates many sustainable vineyard practices: reduced synthetic chemical use, canopy management for grape health, partial hand harvesting. Winery invests in energy efficiency and water usage reduction. Standard lightweight glass for packaging. No major packaging innovations noted in 2012.
While Dr. Loosen is a leader in quality Mosel Riesling and employs eco-conscious farming, this wine (as of the 2012 release) did not carry formal sustainability or organic certifications. Sustainable practices are present, but not at the cutting edge, and the global export model increases overall carbon footprint. The winery has continued to improve sustainability since this vintage. Good, responsible mainstream choice, but not in the top tier for environmental rigor.
