Sustainability
Sustainability score: 9/10
Manual harvest, wild yeast fermentation, minimal interventions, no synthetic chemicals, low/no sulfur added, recycled/eco packaging, gravity flow in cellar, minimal energy use.
Frantz Saumon is regarded as one of the Loire’s most environmentally conscious natural winegrowers. All vineyards are certified organic (Ecocert) and much work is biodynamic, though not always formally certified as such. Farming minimizes environmental impact with cover crops, no herbicides/pesticides, and biodiversity focus. Winemaking is minimal-intervention: wild yeast, low sulfite, no fining/filtration. Packaging uses eco-friendly glass and recycled materials. Small production means energy and water use are tightly managed. Because wines are distributed mostly within France/EU, global carbon footprint is kept reasonable, though overseas shipments (US, Asia) do increase total impact. Overall, this is among the most sustainable French white wines on the market.
