Tasting profile
Vivid cherry, red currant, wild herb, rose petal, and balsamic hints; tart red fruit acidity and youthful tannin grip. Hints of anise, forest floor and sweet spice begin to emerge.
Evolution: With age, expect dried rose, leather, cedar, tobacco, dried cherry, truffle, and more pronounced earthy/mineral notes. Tannins will resolve and the palate will become silky and complex.
At peak: At or near peak from 2026-2040, showing deep secondary and tertiary aromas, resolved tannins, vibrant acid-spine, and classic Montalcino earth-mineral complexity.

2015 was a benchmark vintage in Montalcino, with warm but balanced conditions producing concentrated, structured, age-worthy wines. Le Potazzine—one of the region’s most revered traditional producers—uses long maceration, large casks, and low intervention to craft a style with pronounced structure and longevity. High acidity and elegant tannins ensure this wine will peak gracefully over decades, not years.
Food pairing
Pair with bistecca alla fiorentina (Tuscan steak), braised lamb shank, wild boar ragù, aged Pecorino Toscano, mushroom risotto, or truffle-infused dishes.

- Yes (2-3 hours) — To allow youthful tannins to soften and expose underlying floral, spice, and earthy complexity; aeration helps this traditional Brunello open fully.
Sustainability
Sustainability score: 9/10
Le Potazzine is recognized for traditional, sustainable, and organic viticulture. They use natural cover crops, manual harvesting, no irrigation, and natural fermentations. In the winery: indigenous yeasts, large neutral barrels (limiting new oak usage), gravity flow systems, minimal sulfur. Low-impact packaging with lightweight glass. No chemical additives.
Le Potazzine has earned a reputation as one of Montalcino’s foremost organic estates. Led by Gigliola and her daughters, the estate practices responsible land management—eschewing synthetic inputs since inception, and officially certified organic. By emphasizing biodiversity and sustainability—through cover crops, minimal machinery, and low-sulfur, additive-free vinification—they reduce environmental impact substantially. While bottled in Italy with local materials, distribution abroad does add some carbon cost typical of Italian fine wines shipped globally. Overall, among the most sustainable top-tier Brunello estates.
