Tasting profile
Combines concentrated blackcurrant, blackberry, plum, graphite, cedar, incense, crushed stone, with elegant toasted oak. Structure is pronounced but balanced by vibrant acidity.
Evolution: Fruit, earth, and oak integrate over 10-20 years; tannins soften, tertiary notes of tobacco, leather, truffle, and forest floor appear. Acidity preserves freshness.
At peak: At maturity: layered cassis, blackberry preserve, fine herbs, graphite, exotic spice, seamless oak, with silky tannins and profound mineral length.

Sustainability
Sustainability score: 9/10
Dry-farming, compost use, minimal irrigation, cover cropping, organic pest/disease management (IPM), solar power, natural/conservation woodland on estate, recycled packaging
Ridge Vineyards is an industry leader in environmentally conscious winemaking: dry-farmed mountain vineyards reduce water usage; cover crops and organic matter increase soil health and carbon sequestration; electricity needs are met largely with solar power. While not certified organic or biodynamic, Ridge’s holistic practices surpass many requirements, earning top marks for sustainability. Packaging is eco-considered, and local footprint is low, especially for US consumers. Export does increase carbon impact, but Ridge’s responsible stewardship makes Monte Bello one of the greenest fine Cabernets globally.
