Tasting profile
Deeply colored, highly aromatic: dark cherry, plum, violets, black tea, incense, spice, balsamic and earthy nuances. Very youthful on the palate, with rich fruit, substantial tannins, and vibrant acidity.
Evolution: With time, primary red and dark fruit notes will give way to complex tertiary aromas: dried cherry, leather, tobacco, forest undergrowth, wild herbs, sandalwood, and truffle.
At peak: At peak, expect a seamless, powerful yet elegant wine, fully integrated tannin and acidity, with deep layers of flavor and long, fine, savory finish characteristic of Riserva-level Brunello.

2019 is widely considered an excellent, classic vintage for Brunello di Montalcino, noted for its freshness and structure—qualities that support long-term aging. This Mercatale Riserva, from the estate’s best parcel and only produced in top years, is crafted for endurance. Expect it to reach full maturity 13-16 years after vintage (2032-2035), and remain vibrant through at least 2040, possibly longer.

Sustainability
Sustainability score: 7/10
Ridolfi practices organic viticulture, abstains from synthetic pesticides/herbicides, utilizes biodynamic preparations on select parcels, integrated pest management, and hand-harvesting. Modernized winery focuses on energy efficiency and water recycling. Uses lightweight bottles.
Ridolfi’s adherence to certified organic agriculture (CCPB) and careful environmental stewardship position it above average for sustainability among Brunello producers. While not officially biodynamic, the estate’s commitment to soil health, biodiversity, and reduced chemical inputs is notable. Use of lightweight glass and eco-friendly packaging further supports its sustainability profile, but international shipping does elevate the carbon footprint. No solar power or carbon offset scheme is disclosed, limiting its top score.
